Terrigal Road Trip '07

I'm back from yet another week filled with fun and excitement, having spent three nights, 4 days on a road trip to Terrigal. We had 18 ppl on the trip and stayed at a luxurious apartment called Star of the Sea.

Day 1

We went up on monday, but ran into a few problems due to the extreme heat, bush fires and the closing of the F3 and Princess Hwy. We were forced to take the 'scenic route', a detour to Wiseman's ferry which involved sitting in a long queue for about 6 or 7 hrs, and so we arrived in Terrigal around 11:30pm. The wait was quite amusing, involving trying to hear my iTrip in 3 cars simultaneously, stopping and starting the cars to move approx 20 meters at a time in intervals of about 1/2 hr, a certain someone violating Vivian's pink pig pillow, laughing at Kev's GPS which said we had 1.2 km to go until the ferry which should only take us about 2 mins... A big THANK YOU to the Salvation Army people who came and handed out free water to everyone in the Ginormous line of cars.

It was a thoroughly amusing day, and an even more amusing night, with 6 of us checking in as three 'couples', Steve & Cathy, Kev & Ky, Chris and me, then unloading the suspiciously full-looking wagon, and sneaking 8 more people into the apartment. Then it was a game of find your belongings and jump in the shower for 5 mins and collapse on the nearest piece of carpet you can find, with 8 girls in the upstairs master bedroom, and the two downstairs rooms allocated to the boys. We also broke out the alchie for the over18s and had midori and kahlua shots, and after one, I got a very nice night's worth of sleep.

Day 2

The morning broke beautifully, with Cathy having disappeared bright and early (6am!) to take a jog. Maaaaaaaaannnnn that girl is dedicated.
We were rostered into groups for cooking and cleaning, and my group was in charge of breakfast, and I made pancakes for 14 ppl. The three guys who were training it from Sydney arrived quite early, PF, Cham and Jona. They had had the benefit of sleeping in their own beds the previous night and not having to sit in a traffic jam.

The Wii came out during breaky preparation, and there was an exciting game of tennis on the wide screen tv in the lounge room. Cathy and I then went out shopping to get the rest of the groceries, and we hit the local supermarket like a whirlwind, with several dozen baskets worth of stuff, but surprisingly, the cost was still under $200. We also bought seafood and hot chips for lunch, oysters and prawns.

We then hit the beach, a troupe of 17 rowdy asians, some *coughPFcough* who were soooo damn white they looked like extra concentrated ghosts. Steve brought along his water proof camera and we had some fun shots. Some of the girls also made a sand castle, and we buried Andy and Kev got a few MA15+ shots too.

We then went back to the apartments in two groups as to look less conspicuous, one group through the front and another through the back/garage. A couple of us went to play tennis, and the others jumped in the pool, and others went back to the room. We had some pros on the court, including Jona, who used to play competitively, Cham, PF, Chris, Kev. 50 points were scored by certain people for hitting other people with the ball.

Then it was off to the indoor heated pool, where a group of us stayed and kept Dacia occupied for about 4 hrs as others were preparing her surprise belated birthday party. The room was decorated with streamers and balloons, and people all had party poppers. We had tacos for dinner, which was beautiful. We also brought out PF's mahjong set and had a few games playing 'chicken soup' before the pros sat in and played 3fan.

Again the alchie was broken out to celebrate, and this time I had 3 shots, 2 midori/kahlua (shiet on grass), and another one with butterscotch schnapps and baileys in it (CS cowboys). I'm quite ashamed to say I got a headache after that, meaning I can't really hold my alcohol very well, but I was sensible and had water and bread after that and didn't get a hangover or anything. It was quite fun bonding with people over the drinks, including Steve, Billy, Cathy, Rob.

This night, we had mixed sleeping arrangements, with Steve falling asleep in the girls' room, and I had to semi-wake Cathy to get her to move onto the bed as well to make space for the rest of us.

Day 3

After a late start, we had bacon and scrambled eggs for breaky, and Cathy and I hit the pool again. We were joined by Chris and Cham, and we tried to teach Chris how to swim, coz the poor guy has never learnt in his life. I pinched a giant water bottle to use as a flotation device, and I also showed Cham how to tread water. We then spent some time in the steam room, before heading back for lunch. Danny popped up for a visit (extremely short, about 2 hrs max) before driving all the way back down to Syd. Cathy, Billy and I enjoyed the spa for a while before I felt like I was boiling alive. Then it was back to the indoor pool, where we played piggy-in-the-middle with a tennis ball. The game was sooo intense that I actually got hurt, scraping both my knees and my left elbow. We then moved to the outdoor pool below our apartment and Cathy, Billy, Bon and I stayed there until almost dinner time.

Our last night was spent partying to the max, whilst also trying to keep the noise down, I myself had 5 shots and 1 vodka cruiser, plus more alcohol in a drinking game 'Have you ever...?'
Many secrets were divulged in that game, but all things said on the trip will remain on the trip ^^. Cathy was the only one who felt uneasy, having vomited she was quite cold and had to be put to bed (relatively) early. The rest of us were up until the early hours of the morning, I myself going to bed at 4:30, but was still awake when Billy, Bon and Dacia staggered into the upstairs bedroom at 5am to find a place to sleep. Us three girls slept in the master bed, whilst Billy hit the floor. There were also people sleeping in the lounge.

Day 4

We were woken at 7 to pack up, as we were supposed to check out by 10am. There was a lot of frantic scurrying around, locating lost property, and trying to squeeze overflowing suitcases closed. Then came the fun game of boot-packing tetris, trying to once again squeeze 18 ppls worth of luggage into 3 cars, then sending the pack down to the shops and checking out with only 6 of us again. We're pretty sure the owners knew we had too many people, but they didn't comment, and were extremely nice in that regard. We bought them a small gift before heading to lunch in the town.

It was fish and chips galore, then shopping for some and hiking to the top of the look-out point for Cathy, Billy and me, then group photos before we sent the train ppl on their way. The rest of us were too reluctant to leave, and spent another 4 hours on the beach getting severely tanned and some even sunburnt. I now have a sunglasses tan thanks to those last few hours.

Then we decided to take the 'scenic route' home again to see exactly how long it SHOULD have taken us, which was 3 hrs total to get back to Beverly Hills, where we stopped for dinner. We met up with the trainers and had all 18 ppl at dinner again, which was a nice farewell to everybody. Then it was a game of juggling luggage again before we could get everyone home.

It was thoroughly a most enjoyable trip, and being my first roadtrip without my family, it was certainly set the standard for any future ones I will hopefully go to. I'm sure everyone is missing everyone already, and I'll say it too...
MISS YOU GUYS! WISH WE WERE STILL THERE IN TERRIGAL, SPENDING 3/4 OF MY TIME WET, EITHER IN THE POOL, SPA, STEAM ROOM, BEACH, SHOWER ^^.

LOVE YOU ALL!

KYLC '07

I have just come back from a week at my first ever Katoomba Youth Leaders Convention (KYLC). For those who have no idea what KYLC is, it's a bible/church camp, getting youth leaders/workers from churches all over NSW to come together for a week and get some training and learn some valuable tools for their leading youth groups. This year's theme was Strong and Courageous.

This was my first KYLC, so I was in Strand 1 with quite a few other ppl both from my own church West Sydney Chinese Christian Church (WSCCC) and other ppl I know. It was great fun hanging with people I don't usually talk to and getting to meet and know some people from other churches. Here's a shout out to all the ppl from KYLC;
my strand group 1.08; Yin, Dave N, Alby, Jenny, Paul, Alex, Amanda, Sharon, Winnie;

cabra anglican boys; Andy, Chris, John, David, Will, Brian, Alan;
WS-ers; Manda, Vivian, Betty, Jasmine, Mona, Angie, Dan, Will T, Matt S, Matt L, J Chow, Carol, Doreen, Tim Woo;
Con; Michael (keyboardist)
Others; Edith, Victor, Tracey

Hopefully I will get the photo from Alby soon of my strand group and I'll be able to post it on here, and maybe a few random photos from some of the other peeps.

On the whole the camp was better than expected, although the food was gross, the beds awful to sleep in, and the workshops a waste of time, the talks, both morning and evening on Joshua and Titus respectively, and the strand group work was extremely good.

I also got to play table tennis with Will T and Around the World with pushups/situp penalties with David, Andy, Will, JChow, and a board game called Articulate, and Scattergories, and also the REALLY FUN GAMES "THE DUMB NINJA GAME" and "ZAAA!!!"

Originally I had thought that since I was going to be there without my best friend Grape, I would be rather lonely and wouldn't enjoy myself as much, but I found to my delight that I was wrong, and I really enjoyed it, and I'm rather sad that I might not be able to go next year, but may have to skip a year due to a planned trip overseas to HK and some other places.

I felt really challenged by the talks, so much so that I actually started considering joining a childrens' ministry at church, and for those who don't know me extremely well like my best friend does, I generally don't like kids, so she thought I was going a bit whacked in the head when I told her that. But I will definitely be going back to do the other 2 strands and God willing, to learn more and hopefully be able to apply the things I've learnt for the Glory of God.

The New Year 2007

It's been a pretty quiet Christmas and New Year this time around.

I went to Midnight Mass at Mary Immaculate Church, Waverly for Christmas again this year which was fun. The Xmas church service at CP11 was jam-packed too, and I especially loved the skit done by Cerise, Gav, Wongo and Vron.

NYE was spent at home playing monopoly til 2am on New Years day 2007.

I've finally reached 40 hrs with my driving, and I've booked a driving instructor who will cover another 10 hrs, and then hopefully I'll be able to go get my P's.

I've been continuing with Bleach and started a new anime series called Death Note. V interesting and worth checking out.

OOO, I got a tuning fork (A440) for my bday present, and a Cadbury Fondue set for Xmas, and I bought an iTrip for my iPod, so now I can play stuff through radios!

I've also got 2 trips coming up, KYLC next week, then a road trip with 18 friends to Terrigal the following week. Definitely looking forward to both, the first one to refresh my relationship with God, and the second one to relax and get away with friends.

I've also had a lot of time lately to catch up with several friends, involving lots of monopoly with Grape and Jummy, bike riding with Argusy, chatting with Steve, JS, Trung, Ping, and movie with Ray. I also got started on a new composition for 2 flutes and piano, and continued teaching piano, may get a new tutoring student, and began revising japanese.

Man, re-reading my own blogs makes me feel that I'm very shallow. I was just reading Argus' blog, and his is soooo deep. I stole his link to this song tho, coz I think it's really meaningful, and I know that I definitely will take time out to spend with my family. Have a listen to the lyrics:
