A Night In Fantasia 2007: Symphonic Games Edition

What a project!

Man, this last series of concerts has left me so tired, but at the same time soooo happy with what we've been able to achieve.
Sydney's two concerts on friday 20th and saturday 21st april went quite well, even if the Town Hall wasn't entirely filled. The orchestra sounded pretty good after a week long of rehearsals, all of which I was at.
I was very involved this time, and that wasn't including the other days I took out to work with Elaine and dimix doing music preparation, and all the postering that we were doing months before hand. This was partially because I promoted to the title of 'Assistant Orchestral Manager', which added to my role as Crew manager.

The vibe on the day was pretty relaxed, due to the fact that we did not have a matinee, which usually meant we were scurrying around like headless chickens in the morning and panicking between the concerts. A group of friends and I decided to rent an apartment in the city and stayed there for friday night to avoid the going home late problem.

On the whole, the concert went pretty well without any major panic moments. However as usual, concerts mean stress which usually equals fraying tempers and fights. So yes, we did have a couple of those, but hopefully we will be able to sort those issues out in a coming debrief.

The seven guests were quite an interesting bunch. Sakimoto-san was nice as usual, although he seemed to be very busy and a bit distant at first, but he warmed right up after a few beers at the staff after party.
Mitsuda-san was quite professional and dignified, as per last time he was in Aus.
Shiina-san was SOOO MUCH FUN! He came the earliest and left the latest, and was the most fun to hang around.
Nakatsuru-san was quite cool and dignified.
Otani-san looked ridiculous, with half his hair shaved off, and was nice on stage, but wasn't that much fun behind stage.
Shimomura-san I didn't really get to meet, so no comment.
and the last guest who's name wasn't even on the poster and I can't remember his name... well i guess that already says heaps about my impression of him... :P

Granted, for most of them, they could barely speak any english, so that didn't really help with getting to meet or know them, but Shiina was great.

I also got to go to the recording session on the Monday after, and also Melbourne the next friday.

The orchy on the bus

Melbourne's Hamer Hall at the Arts Centre is absolutely magnificent. The way the seating is laid out makes the stage look extremely close, and almost as if you could just reach out and touch the performers. The lobby and hallways were entirely carpeted in red, which gave the place a real 1st class feel, and as there were many levels, that gave more room for crowd control and for them to mingle without obstructing the merch and autograph lines.

It was nice to get to meet some of the melb crew, including Alex, Soon, Astrid, Kat and Rick. Now I can place faces with names and forum alias ^^.

Melb was apparently 80 or so tickets from sell-out, but they didn't open the wings, something about they couldn't see the screen, so yeah, it didn't feel like a full house. However merch wise they DID beat Sydney.

They probably only did so well because us Sydneyers were down there to supervise ^^.
