AnCon07

I just came home from a week at AnCon, USyd's Evangelical Union's (EU) Annual Conference.
It was held at Stanwell Tops and the topic was Resurrection, with the speakers being Rowan Kemp and Ian Powell.

The talks and review groups were extremely intense, and it was such a privilege to be able to be on the receiving end of a weeks worth of such heavy spiritual solid food. For Jesus would have been nothing if he had not been resurrected, and His death has no meaning if he did not rise again in 3 days.

The points that really hit me during the week were;
.Although Jesus' death cleansed our bodies, we are still wearing the clothes of sin.
.A dead Messiah ain't the Messiah, Jesus' death alone does not save
.We ought to live like Jesus died yesterday, rose today, and will return tomorrow
.We must put aside the Romantic notion that we would have believed in Jesus if we had seen all the evidence, because the Pharisees DID see all his miraculous deeds and concluded that they must kill him NOW.

Here is an ACES photo ^^

Facebook and stuff

I finally succumbed to peer pressure and severe annoyance at all the emails I've been getting requesting me to join Facebook and can now say, I'VE JOINED! baaaaaaa

Now, as for other things,
I watched Kill Bill Vol1 and 2 yesterday and was quite surprised as to how much I enjoyed it. Yes it had gruesome parts, being a violent movie about katanas, but it was really funny too.
There were several scenes where I just could not stop laughing.
Gordon Liu was a cack as usual, he's so funny that guy, and this movie's blend of English, Cantonese and Japanese was highly to my interest and amusement.

Oh, and not to mention the subtitles for the cantonese section were ENTIRELY incorrect...

The Ethic of Love part 2

So is Love a Catch-22?

Generally I'd say what u do for others, its either you are doing it because u want to, or because u have to. The former would be love. The latter would be enslavement

This is because love isn't something that someone "has" to do, it can't be forced. You also can't "oblige" love . So its a honest urge to do whatever it is because u want to.

The Ethic of Love

The Ethic of Love according to Rev Peter Jensen is self-denying service to others, however when someone takes advantage of this, it can be called 'enslavement by others'.
Hmm... sounds like someone I know...

Involvement in Eminence

Many of my friends don't understand why I'm so heavily involved in Eminence. They see me put incredible hours and brain power into what they see as a stressful, unpaid waste of time, and even my dad feels the same, but I enjoy working with EO and working with the people in it. In the year that I've joined, I have done a lot, experienced a lot, and learnt a lot. Here is a ramble about my involvement so far.

___________________________________________________________________

I joined EO around April/May 2006 after watching Piano Stories 3. Lucy was my ticket in, coz I know her from uni (we do composition together) and she was the MC at PSIII.

I started off as a crew member, doing (highly unorganised) poster and flyer runs under the 'supervision' of R.S (who basically turned up late every week to Kino and sat there whilst the rest of us ran around the city).

After experiencing the mass mayhem of ANIF06 and realising EO was lacking some basic things that concerts need (and I have done many concerts with my school at the Opera House and Sydney Town Hall so I know) e.g a runsheet for concerts, I believed I could bring something to the company if I worked my way up the ranks.

At the infamous heated ANIF06 debrief , I was assigned the title of assistant librarian with Lucy, because we both do music, and I also became a Team Leader for the Uni aged crew.

The teams idea was only recently abolished, and I was granted the new title of Crew Management Team with Steve and Cathy.

I helped Chris do some data input jobs, i.e putting survey data into electronic form, and Jona and I had a few laughs over the funny survey responses.

And thus PSIV and Passion went by (which btw for those who did not know, Passion was held on my birthday, so I spent my birthday working for EO *sigh*) I also got to go to Studio 301 for the recording of the Passion cd and met Mitsuda-san and Sakimoto-san there.

Many people don't know that there was a very small recording project done near the end of 2006 at Trackdown for some korean thing which used some of our musicians. I was called up the morning of by Hiro and asked to go and supervise.

Another thing that many don't know about, was that I was actually offered a scholarship by EO in January 07 to learn to do some copywriting/printing work with our 3 arranger/orchestrators, but I had to turn it down due to overcommitment.

I have done some work with Nicole Brady and Laura Bishop before, mostly to do with fixing scores and writing out harp pedal parts (Nat, if you ever get to see this, remember it was all for YOU!)

I was also involved in the PlayStation3 Media launch, which was when I first got to meet and work with Elaine and I began to do some orchestral management work with her. I also got called up at 1am the morning of by Hiro to do some last minute fixing of the scores to be played at the launch and was working until 3am with him on the phone.

The next big project was of course Romeo X Juliet where again, I did orchestral management work with Elaine. This involved going to Demetri's house and covering his garage floor with paper. Sakimoto-san came around to visit us as we were working and he even remembered me from Passion and now calls me Poon-chan ^^

And here we are at ANIF07:SGE. I was given the title of Assistant Orchestral Manager and spent another 2 full days at Demetri's house sorting music, went to all the rehearsals the week before, and got to Sydney Town Hall at 9am the morning of. Of course, I've neglected to talk about the poster rounds that I have been organising with Steve and Cathy the months before-hand, and writing a run sheet for Sydney and chasing up various departments about missing info (coz I like to know everything ^^).

And then I went down to Melbourne for ANIF07 and although Soon keeps saying I didn't do anything, I got the orchestra on the plane, on the bus, into their rooms at the UniLodge (all with the help of Danny) and then I also helped Elaine collect the music and pack up at the end of the concert.

So there is my involvement in a nutshell. Of course, it's been highly simplified coz I wouldn't want to bore you all with the nitty gritty details ^^
I may not be a famous musician known and loved by the public, but I'm one of the many staff who actively work to get things done in EO and I thoroughly enjoy it.
